Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group features Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can anticipate learning which players will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
